Just a few items which you may need, if your like me I find it easier to be prepared.

Will need non-stick baking tray 24 x 10 depending how many your going to make. I only made half a dozen small pasties with this. Cooling rack, glass mixing bowl, wooden spoon, pastry brush, cup, fork, pastry knife, pastry cutter approx. diameter 15 cm.

Ingredients for your minced beef pasties.

  • Mince Beef Low fat. 250 grams.
  • Ready made short crust pastry.
  • Small Fresh Carrot sliced and diced to small cubes.
  • Peas frozen are ok. ( Handful ).
  • White Onion 1/4 . Finely chopped.
  • Fresh Potato just 1 small. sliced and diced to small cubes.
  • Ground black pepper 3 or 4 turns.
  • Sea salt. 1/2 teaspoon.
  • Worcestershire sauce. 1 teaspoon.
  • Dried Thyme. 1/2 teaspoon.
  • Dried Parsley. 1/2 teaspoon.
  • One Egg, for seal and glaze.

Mix the minced beef together with all ingredients except the egg as you will need this for glazing and pastry seal. Preheat the oven to 180 C .

Roll the pastry out to approximately 3 or 4 mm thickness. Take the pastry cutter to cut out the circles which your going to use to shape the pasties.

pastry ready to fold into a pasty.

With the minced beef mixture, put this into the centre of each rolled out circular pastry piece,  about two table spoons each pasty. Fold over the pastry to a half moon shape.

With the egg, crack this into small container, using the pastry brush, brush one half of the pastry around half the circle’s edge. This will help to seal the pastry to prevent the filling bursting out.

Fold and then using the fork press and seal the pastry, gently as your only sealing and making a pattern.

  1. 5/5/2019 I’m pleased by the manner in which jamesbasic.kitchen deals with this kind of issue! Generally on point, sometimes controversial, without fail well-written and also thought-provoking.
