A little about Quinoa

Quinoa is one of the world’s most popular health foods, its a grain crop that is grown for its seeds that are edible.

Quinoa is gluten-free, high in protein and one of the few plant foods that contain sufficient amounts of all nine essential amino acids, which are listed below.

  • histidine
  • isoleucine
  • leucine
  • lysine
  • methionine
  • phenylalanine
  • threonine
  • tryptophan
  • valine

Amino acids are an organic compound that combine to form proteins.

It is also high in fibre, magnesium, B vitamins, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin E and various beneficial antioxidants.

One cup of quinoa contains 5 grams of dietary fibre according to Harvard School of Public Health, which is more than white or brown rice.

Fibre helps prevent constipation, helps control blood sugar levels and may also help lower cholesterol. Fibre also helps you maintain a healthy weight by making you feel fuller longer, so you’re less likely to overeat.

It’s high in minerals
